create & restore: autumn photography and yin yoga workshop

                      november 6, 1-5 pm
                      om culture
                      seattle, washington

autumn is a season of change and transition. in ayurveda the dominant dosha is vata, the energy of air. often in autumn we literally feel up in the air and struggle with balancing poses and with finding balance in our lives. energetically what we need is to return to the earth, to ground ourselves and to shift our perspective, to look at the world and at ourselves with new eyes. this shift of perspective is essential on and off the mat, in our yoga practice and through the lens of our cameras.

this workshop begins with a meditative moon salutation flow before transitioning to the earth for an hour of restorative yin yoga, where we rest in longer held postures, giving ourselves time to heal and to be. honor the changing rhythms of your body and the beating of your heart. surrender to the susurration of your breath and feel the release of your hips as you drop deeper into hip opening poses. let your heart melt as you practice restorative backbends, and release the weight of the world as you soften and open your shoulders and neck.

from this creative and open place, we will share a conversation about photographic exposure, composition and light, before wandering outside with our cameras. as photographers (whether first or old timers) we practice seeing the world in a new way. you might head to gas works park to gaze at the earth with curiosity, wonder and compassion, or walk toward lake union and notice the ripple of water, or follow the burke gilman trail and witness the changing colors of fallen leaves, trees with bare branches weaving toward the sky. you might even smell, taste and feel the autumn air, so that your images resonate not just visually but also viscerally.

after an hour to photograph and explore, you are welcome to meet back at om culture and share your favorite photographs on a projector (so please bring your usb cord!) while enjoying hot cider and muffins. no experience is required, just a desire to play and restore on and off the mat!
